Local Runner Running Boston Marathon to Help Citizens for Adequate Housing, Inc.
Ending Homelessness is Chip Manozzi’s Goal in This Race
This coming April 21st, Chip Manozzi of Andover, MA, will be one of 25,000 participants at the starting line of the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton, anxiously waiting for the start of his 26.2 mile run. While many runners are hoping for their personal best, or the bragging rights that belong to every runner who finishes Boston, Manozzi is running for much more – he is running to help stop homelessness. Citizens for Adequate Housing, Inc. (CAH), a not-for-profit organization located in Peabody, MA, is Chip’s charity of choice in this endeavor. CAH serves the North Shore and greater Boston area providing shelter and affordable housing for the past twenty-five years for families who might otherwise be homeless.
Having run for the last 5 years, Manozzi has been tested on several marathon courses. He has run the Disney Marathon in 2006 and 2008, as well as the Marine Corps Marathon. This year’s Boston Marathon will be his toughest, and the stakes are much higher. As Chip said, “Marathons are grueling, but they end, and the runners are rewarded for their efforts. Other problems, like homelessness, simply don’t end. They are difficult, and Citizens for Adequate Housing, Inc. (CAH) helps to find an end.” Manozzi has set a lofty goal and plans to raise $4,000 for CAH. His efforts will benefit CAH’s three programs: the Inn Between, an emergency shelter for homeless parents and children; the Inn Transition, a sober-living transitional housing program for homeless families with a parent in recovery; and the Communities Land Trust, which provides families with affordable housing. To help support Manozzi please consider making a pledge on our website at www.cahns.org, or go to www.firstgiving.org/chipmanozzi.
If you are registered to run in the Boston Marathon and interested in running with Chip, it is hoped you will consider running for Citizens for Adequate Housing, Inc. All runners who collect $500 in CAH pledges prior to April 15th will receive an official BAA Marathon jacket; but more importantly, you will know that this year not only did you run the grand-daddy of all marathons, but you also ran to help put an end to homelessness. Citizens for Adequate Housing, Inc. is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For more information please call or e-mail CAH Development Director Betsy Leeman at (978) 531-9775, ext. 17, or bleeman@cahns.org. With your pledge know that you are helping to create a foundation from which our families can re-direct their lives so that homelessness will be a thing of the past for them. Chip Manozzi has a head start on caring a lot about others, and a good heart.
