In order to fill the void of a blank canvas (or wooden template), I begin by making certain forms visible, only to exclude them later.  The object is to create a trajectory.  Usually, after my first thrust of energy, a voice within me denies what I have done to that point and forces me to make changes that, even though not entirely valid, direct me to more imaginative propositions.  There is a sort of constant progression as the various forms coalesce into a unified whole.  As I proceed, a subconscious tendency directs my choices, until the whole becomes self-evident.   In the case of Green House , the initial idea came from the accepted definition of a glass house devoted to the cultivation of tender plants.  But as I proceeded, topical issues of ecology became pervasive and the project became an imaginative play on the concept of “going green.”
